Lee Min Ho Shoots Underwater in 7kg Armor for ‘Faith’

For his role in the upcoming SBS drama Faith as the fearless and charismatic Goryeo Dynasty warrior Choi Young, Lee Min Ho had to shoot a dramatic scene underwater.

In the setup for the scene, Lee Min Ho’s Choi Young is crossing a frozen lake when suddenly the ice gives in, plunging him underwater.

Lee Min Ho was reportedly wearing armor that weighed approximately 7kg, and had to shoot underwater for long periods of time, but the actor showed no hesitation and filmed his scenes with relative ease. The staff even applauded his work on set.


Lee Min Ho said, “It was a scene that called for the baring of Choi Young’s emotions inside and as it was my first time shooting so deep underwater, it was a scene I looked forward to [shooting]. Having to wear 7kg armor, there was no need for me to force my submergence. Thanks to the staff, I was able to successfully film the scene.”

Faith will premiere on August 13 on SBS.

Lee says, “It was a scene that described Choi Young’s emotions and also my first time to shoot an underwater scene, so I’m personally very excited about this scene. I didn’t have to try to go underwater because I was wearing a suit of armor that weighed about seven kilograms. Thanks to the crew, I could safely shoot the scene.”

Meanwhile, “Faith” is another time-warping, historical fusion drama where a plastic surgeon, played by Kim Hee Sun, mysteriously meets a strange man dressed as a warrior from the Goryeo Dynasty, played by Lee Min Ho, claiming that he’s here to take her “back.” The series marks Lee Min Ho’s first sageuk (historical drama) since his debut and Kim Hee Sun’s return to the small screen in six years.

“Faith” will premiere on August 13 at 9:55PM KST on SBS.
