Lee Min Ho most favored Korean star among Arabs: survey
SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- Actor Lee Min-ho is found to be the most beloved Korean star among Arabs, a poll showed Thursday.
According to the survey of 3,000 Arabs on their perception toward South Korea, the largest number of respondents, or 14.8 percent, cited the 29-year-old actor as the first who comes to their mind when thinking of South Koreans.
The survey was conducted by KBS World Radio, the overseas radio service of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), last month online on its listeners from 22 Arabic nations.
Lee catapulted to stardom with his role in the 2009 soap opera, "Boys Over Flowers," and has starred in a variety of films and TV dramas.
Boy band Super Junior came in second with 10.8 percent, followed by another idol group EXO with 9 percent, actress Park Shin-hye with 5.1 percent and U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and President Park Geun-hye with 2.6 percent, each, according to the survey.
A majority of Arabs also said the pop culture and celebrities dominate their image of South Korea, far higher than Korean companies and products made in Korea.
Asked if how their usage of Korean cultural contents affect their thoughts on the Asian country, 95.1 percent said their experiences have improved the image they harbor on Korea.
The survey also found that the lack of halal food and ingredients here causes the most inconvenience to Muslims here, with 27 percent of the respondents citing them, followed by difficulties in conversation with Koreans with 14.5 percent and high living costs with 14 percent.

Lee Min Ho has been selected hallyu star of the year by Chinese consumers.
On receiving the Brand of the Year Korea 2015 award, Lee Min Ho stated, "I′m happy and thankful to be awarded at the Brand of the Year Korea 2015. I think it′s a particularly meaningful award because consumers get to choose directly. I will continue to work hard in order to be an actor that gives back through good projects."
Winners of the Brand of the Year Korea awards are selected directly by consumer votee, not brand surveys conducted by panelists.

Voting took place via China′s People Daily′s online and mobile website from August 10 to August 18, and the 10 hallyu stars of 2015 selected by Chinese citizens were Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Min Ho, Super Junior, EXO, Big Bang, Lee Kwang Soo, Yoo Jae Suk, Girls′ Generation (SNSD), Lee Jong Suk and CNBLUE.

Lee Min Ho and Lee Jong-suk, China's Hallyu Stars of the Year
They made their speeches via video at the 2015 ROK Brand of the Year Awards on the 6th.
Lee Min-ho said, "I am so happy to have been chosen for this year's brand award. It means a lot as I was chosen by the consumers themselves and I take this as love and support for me to further progress in the future".
Lee Jong-suk said, "I am happy to be chosen. As a representing face of Korean brands, I promise to do better in the future".
The 2015 ROK Brand of the Year Awards started in 2003, discovering brands that have been most popular in Korea. Consumers vote personally and choose the grand prizes.
This year, a new category called, 'Brand of the Year' voted by Chinese consumers, was created.
From the 10th of August to the 18th, online and mobile votes were carried out in China to choose the Brand of the Year. The results showed Kim Soo-hyeon-I, Lee Min-ho, Super Junior, EXO, Big Bang, Lee Gwang-soo, Yoo Jae-seok, Girls' Generation, Lee Jong-suk and CNBlue.
