‘Faith’ plagiarism accusation has been lifted & both parties will continue with their production
SBS officially announced on April 6th about the similarities between ‘Faith’ and ‘Dr. Jin’ that “There is no problem with the copyright infringement so the production and shooting will continue.”
The lawyer who’s representing Lee Kim Production said that the law firm representing SBS for the upcoming drama ‘Faith’ sent all the needed documents through fax. SBS revealed, “The SBS law firm was officially reviewed by a third party law firm, and came into conclusion that copyright infringement was not highly likely in this case.”
SBS also added, “In regards to whether or not if there was a copyright infringement, SBS submitted scripts from the first three episodes of ‘Faith’ while MBC submitted their own scripts for ‘Dr. Jin.’ It was determined that the copyright infringement was low,” and also explained, “In order for it to be considered a copyright infringement, both parties must have substantial similarities between their works.”
Also, “‘Faith’ and ‘Dr. Jin’ do have similar general plot about a doctor going through a time slip demonstrating modern medicine, and treating major historical figures at that time. However, this type of plot is very common in comics, movies, dramas, etc., so it is difficult to acknowledge its originality when it is borrowed from a common plot, especially when it’s still in development process such as going into specific topics, events, and backgrounds.” SBS also said, “There are other Japanese mangas such as ‘Fantasy Game’ and ‘Red River Sky’ which have similar plots as well.”
SBS concluded, “It has been determined that there was no correlation between both works based upon the nature of its characteristics and types, such as storylines and characters’ personalities,” and also revealed, “After a thorough legal review, there was no copyright infringement involved upon SBS, so the production planning for ‘Faith’ will continue without any charge.”
On the other hand, Lee Min Ho and Kim Hee Sun will be playing the leading roles for the drama ‘Faith’ which is set to air this August.

Director Kim Jong Hak highly favors the two main pairings for SBS Faith
For the upcoming SBS Wednesdays & Thursdays drama ‘Faith’ is set to air this August, and Director Kim Jong Hak showed his favor for the main pairing of Kim Hee Sun and Lee Min Ho with his statement “chemistry sent from heaven.”
Director Kim Jong Hak, who was able to see many different male-female pairings from his past works such as ‘The Legend,’ ‘Sandglass Time,’ ‘Eyes of Dawn,’ etc., stated, “It would be hard to create such pairing for the characters so close to perfection even if we deliberately make one.”
Director Kim Jong Hak and scriptwriter Song Ji Na will collaborate for the upcoming drama ‘Faith.’ The genre is a fusion drama and will be about a love story between a warrior and a female doctor. Actress Kim Hee Sun will be playing plastic surgeon named Eun Soo while Lee Min Ho will be playing a warrior escort for the Goryeo Dynasty.
Director Kim Jong Hak favored the harmony of Lee Min Ho’s manly strength and Kim Hee Sun’s feminine delicacy believing that the two would show a common intimacy while portraying the characters’ cuteness for the viewers as well.
A representative of the production team stated, “We are looking forward to seeing Kim Hee Sun and Lee Min Ho’s perfect chemistry within the drama.” The representative also stated that we should look forward to the comical combination between the blunt yet chic character of Lee Min Ho and the clumsy yet vivid character of Kim Hee Sun.
The drama ‘Faith’ along with another upcoming drama ‘Ghost’ are both set to air this August and will have 24 episodes.

Lee Min Ho Saves ‘Faith’ with Casting Decision
CJ E&M enewsWorld Lee, InKyung

Lee Min Ho proved that he has the power to save any drama from floundering.
Lee Min Ho recently confirmed he would be appearing in the upcoming SBS drama Faith in August for a small screen comeback.
What’s notable is that Faith was drama that was shunted from channel to channel for three years.
Ever since 2010, director Kim Jong Hak’s Faith had sent out offers to Lee Joon Gi, Song Seung Hun and Kang Ji Hwan for the lead role, but because the 3D medical drama seemed too extravagant, production continued to be delayed. As casting for the male lead became tangled, Kim Hee Sun, who chose to act as the female lead, had to push back her small screen comeback for three years along with the drama.
At this, the producers continued to send in love calls for Lee Min Ho, and at news that Lee Min Ho had finally taken up the offer, SBS confirmed it would give Faith a time slot.
Lee Min Ho was favored by SBS’ drama division as he had led the success of City Hunter last year, and had won the Best Acting Award at the year-end drama awards. From Boys over Flowers to Personal Taste and City Hunter, Lee Min Ho continuously boasted an ability to gather interest and viewership ratings, pitching drama production companies in a war to get Lee Min Ho to appear in their dramas.
Thus in the eyes of Kim Jong Hak Production, Lee Min Ho is truly a savior for the much-maligned drama.
A rep from Lee Min Ho’s agency Starus said, “The new synopsis with scriptwriter Song Ji Na was better than the originalFaith synopsis. It also gained trust in that it was a collaborative piece between Song Ji Na and director Kim Jong Hak, who produced the hits Hourglass and The Legend.”
Lee Min Ho also said, “As soon as I read the script, I became so absorbed that I instantly read through to the sixth episode. I usually like traditional dramas, and I was considering appearing in one for a change in image, so it’s like I met a suit of armor that fit me perfectly. I wanted to try working with people I always looked up to,” showing his ‘faith’ in the writer and director.
Faith is a fusion period piece that talks of how a warrior from the Goryeo Dynasty and a female doctor from the present come together to bring up a king that cures all his people. The drama is set in King Gong Min’s time, and Lee Min Ho will be playing Choi Young of the King’s personal guard, a man who later becomes the famed General Choi Young.
The piece will feature Song Ji Na’s brand of realistic settings with fast-paced thrill, detective work and humor, as Choi Young’s cold charms and Eun Soo’s (Kim Hee Sun) unpredictable ways are expected to come together in a comical combination. It’s also interesting how Kim Hee Sun will approach her love relationship with Lee Min Ho, who is younger than her, just like Han Ga In did in MBC’s The Sun and the Moon.
Faith will start airing in August following Ghost, which stars So Ji Sub and Lee Yeon Hee.

Lee Min Ho had to cancel a promotion event in China - not because he didn’t have enough people to hold the event with, but because there were too many.
Lee Min Ho was planning to attend the opening event for a Semir branch in Xi’an on April 2. From the day before the event, however, 5,000 fans swarmed to the scene, leading to the cancellation of the event.
Semir is the biggest casual clothing brand in China, as it owns 6,000 branches across China. On the day of the event, the brand was due to open a large flagship store in downtown Xi’an, and was to celebrate the opening with an event featuring the brand’s model Lee Min Ho.
But too many people turned up for the event, leading the branch to cancel the event. From the day before the event, crowds set up tents in front of the shop to see Lee Min Ho as close up as possible, and near the time the event was due to start, 5,000 people (estimate by Chinese Public Security Officers) had filled up the square in front of the shop.
Employees of the shop couldn’t get out because they were trapped inside. One hundred extra staffmembers and bodyguards and 300 Public Security Officers were dispatched to the scene, but they were no match for the sea of Chinese fans.
A rep from Semir said, “We’re sad that we didn’t even get to start the event when we invested a lot of money and time into it, but the fact that a big crowd gathered for the event made it into the news and spread through word of mouth, so that somewhat helped with the image of the brand.”
In an emergency video produced at his hotel, Lee Min Ho said, “I’m sorry I didn’t get to see you before my departure. I promise I’ll see you next time.” The video was aired on a large screen in the square to cheers from the waiting crowd.
Lee Min Ho also prepared 300 autographed papers for his fans. He had to sign the papers by himself in his hotel room, without anyone to stand in front of him like any other fansigning session.
Through his Weibo after he returned to Korea, Lee Min Ho again said, ‘I’m so thankful and sad that so many fans had to wait at the scene for a long time. I hope I’ll get a chance to meet you again’.
Lee Min Ho will be returning to the small screen in August with SBS’ Faith as Choi Young, the head of the King’s personal guard.

Lee Min Ho China Event Gets Cancelled Due to Big Crowd

Lee Min Ho had to cancel a promotion event in China - not because he didn’t have enough people to hold the event with, but because there were too many.
Lee Min Ho was planning to attend the opening event for a Semir branch in Xi’an on April 2. From the day before the event, however, 5,000 fans swarmed to the scene, leading to the cancellation of the event.
In the end, the event was cancelled when the host and Public Security judged it would be unsafe to continue. Lee Min Ho thus had to return to Korea without getting to step outside of his hotel on official business.
