Lee Min Ho - Social Network Updates - 29.06.2013

Update on Twitter: "Malaysia!! Are you ready?"

Catching up with Lee Min Ho

In a few days, Lee Min Ho will again be breathing the same air as his Pinoy admirers. Cue high-pitched shrieks of delight.

The handsome hallyu superstar, who just turned 26 last weekend, was in town in late 2012 as the new Bench endorser, where he got up close and personal with thousands of swooning Minoz at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Due to insistent public demand, he returns to Manila to serenade—yes, he sings, too—his Filipino fans in his first-ever concert on July 6 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

He has just embarked on a world tour for his new album, “My Everything,” which will take him to 10 cities across Asia and the United States. Initially recorded as a token for his fans to commemorate his seventh year in show biz, the album became such a huge hit that it even topped the Oricon charts in Japan soon after its release, making him the first South Korean actor to land that distinction.

Breakthrough role

Lee shot to fame in 2009 when he played fearless F4 ringleader Gu Jun Pyo in “Boys Over Flowers,” the Korean live-action adaptation of the popular manga series. He landed other meaty TV roles, starring as ambitious architect Jeon Jin-ho in 2010’s “Perfect Match,” the brooding titular antihero in 2011’s “City Hunter,” and the dashing, long-haired warrior Choi Young in last year’s period drama, “Faith.”
His album “My Everything” contains seven sweet pop ballads, including a re-recording of the piano-driven title song that he originally sang in the “BOF” soundtrack.
In an exclusive e-mail interview, Super picks Lee’s brains about his new album, his coming drama show and what he misses most about the Philippines.

What were your most memorable moments from your first trip to the Philippines?

I was very surprised at how fans in the Philippines welcomed me with a great amount of love when I visited for the Bench promotion. The love that fans gave me always motivates me and made me think how much I want to visit the Philippines again. Some of the memorable things are the smiles and kindness of all the fans and staff while I was in the Philippines.
I heard you ate adobo and loved it. Anything else you’d like to try when you come back to Manila? How about places to visit?
I have tried many kinds of food, but it’s so hot these days so I remember mango juice. I have heard that there are so many beautiful islands [apart from] Cebu and Boracay, so if I have the chance I’d like to visit an unknown island.

You’ve begun your world tour, right? How’s the reception so far?
This is the first album I’ve released and I think it showed new sides of me. The reception from fans was amazing and they keep sending me messages to encourage me. After all, I am very happy to be able to talk to fans with all my heart.

Does the album’s success surprise you?
I was so surprised. I felt like I should keep doing my best not to disappoint my fans who send love and encouragement. As I saw more fans while touring the world, I thought releasing an album was a great idea. I am very touched.

Which song on the album is closest to your heart and why?
I like “Jogak (Pieces).” It’s the song that everyone can sing along to, and it really shows my full emotion.

You have a new TV project coming up. Can you tell us what it’s about?
The new SBS TV show “Heirs” that is going to be aired this year is a teen romance drama. For this show, I am going to be working with director Kang Shinhyo and writer Kim Eunsook. I star as a character named Kim Tan.

What sort of character will you be playing this time?
Last time in “Faith,” I played a general during the Koryo Dynasty. This time, I also go back to the past and will be acting as a high school student. I can’t reveal too much yet, but you will be able to check out the show soon!

What’s it like to be paired again with Park Shin Hye?
I worked with her for a TV commercial a few years ago. This is my first time to do [a TV show] with her. The female leads that I’ve worked with were always older than me, but since she is younger than me, it feels somewhat different and new.

You lead a pretty hectic life. What do you do to unwind or de-stress?
I sleep a lot to de-stress. It makes me feel better … 10 minutes is OK. And I like playing [video] games, as you guys know.

Which ones are your favorites?I play new games when they come out, so it’s hard to pick. I’m playing a social game in my cell phone these days.

If I challenge you to a round of “Tekken,” do you think your gaming skills could handle it?
I haven’t tried Tekken yet. Maybe I can win after having enough time to practice.

Lastly, any messages to your Filipino fans?
Hello, fans in the Philippines, I am Lee Min Ho. How have you all been doing? I am visiting Manila again to have an amazing time with you all. I will be seeing you on July 6 as a part of the global tour. I am so excited to see you all soon. Please take care till the day I get to see you!

MC: Does he consider expanding his career by singing since he sings really well.
Lee Min Ho: I never actually debut as a singer but I will continue singing for my fans and continue making new songs. But because I did not begin my career as a singer I haven’t thought of being singer as my profession.

MC: Did you ever think of getting a role as a host or emcee of any program?
Lee Min Ho: I haven’t practically thought of becoming a host or emcee yet but once I have more freedom and time, I will then think about it.

Lee Min Ho: Recently I have been in a drama with actress, Park Shin Hye and currently I am only thinking to finish the whole drama with her.

MC: How do you keep your skin so fine and in such a good condition?
Lee Min Ho: There aren’t that many secrets to my skin but I try to wash my face often and I sleep at the right time and wake up at the right time.
MC: Do you have time for it (to sleep on time)?
Lee Min ho: At the moment I have a lot of time to sleep, so right now I am trying to sleep more.

MC : Since you have been to Malaysia, is there any specific or nice place you have been that you want to share with us?
Lee Min Ho: I want to visit the Twin Towers but last time when I was here I have a packed schedule so I don’t have time to go anywhere but this time I pretty like to try up the Malaysian foods and go to the Twin Towers.

MC: Do you think there is any difference between the Korean culture and what is that?
Lee Min Ho: Recently I have been to many countries around in Asia, and I feel that there isn’t much difference because what they like and what they see is all quite similar because we are human after all so that isn’t much difference.

MC : Is there any (special) similarity?
Lee Min Ho: When we are all happy, we get excited

MC: Anything you expect from your Malaysian fans?
Lee Min Ho: Rather than expecting anything because this is my first time having concert here, I just want all my fans who visit me to be satisfied and enjoy their time there.

MC: Do you have anything to say to the press or your fans?
Lee Min Ho: First of all, I would like to thank everyone who came to see me today and tomorrow is my showcase and I will try to give my all so that my fans will have a happy time there.

Lee Min Ho to pinoy fans: 'Always be happy'

Korean superstar Lee Min Ho will be visiting the Philippines next month to hold his first ever "My Everything-World Tour 2013" and he's hoping to spend a great time with his Filipino fans.

The Manila leg of the concert tour will be held on July 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Lee Min Ho will visit 10 cities for the tour including Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Osaka, Hong Kong and the United States.

His ongoing world tour coincides with the release of his first album "My Everything," which was released in May.
This will be his second visit to the Philippines and Lee Min Ho told Bulletin Entertainmentthat he's looking forward to seeing his Filipino fans again.

"It’s great to come back because the Philippines has its own color and I love it. I couldn’t forget all the love I had received last year from so many fans. I still remember the last time very vividly," he said.

Lee Min Ho spent four days in the country last November for his Benchsetter Fun Meet at the Araneta Coliseum, mall tour and autograph signing.

"My Everything" is his first ever music album and it includes the songs "Love Motion," "Without You," "My Little Princess," "You & I," "Pieces of Love" and "My Everything."

Lee Min Ho said it took him a month to record all the songs in the album.

"First plan was making a mini album with four songs, but it extended to six songs in the recording process. I was never really a singer so I had to learn ways to control throat and such. It took about one month to be able to do so. It was overall a great experience," he told Bulletin Entertainment.

When it was released in Japan, "My Everything" topped the Oricon daily chart without any promotion.

"I was so surprised. I felt like I should keep on doing my best not to disappoint my fans who send love and encouragement to me," Lee Min Ho added.

Lee Min Ho is primarily an actor and his album is a different side of him. He said he was shy to sing in front of people but he's gotten used to it.

"I have never imagined myself singing in front of someone. I was so shy. But now I'm very happy that I can communicate with fans with all my heart on stage," he said.

Bulletin Entertainment asked him if this will be the start of his singing career and he said that he would love to release albums in the future.

Lee Min Ho said, "I don’t think of it as starting a new career as a singer. I think it’s a continuation of my professional career. I worked on this album so I can communicate with my fans better, and I would like to have more opportunities like this, although I wouldn’t be able to do it often."

Lee Min Ho debuted in the entertainment industry in 2002 and rose to stardom through the 2009 hit drama "Boys Over Flowers."

He said he always put his best in every drama he makes.

"I don’t really start working on projects thinking how much high up I want up to. Of course I once thought I would only get close to the audience when I can truly be in my character to be able to convince the audience as I was doing 'Boys over Flowers.' I do want to make sure that I put everything to come up with the best outcome whenever I take a role. As I look back on my career, I think everyone has ups and downs. I would like to do my best for now and I can only tell in the future where I stand now at this very moment," he said.

In choosing his drama or film projects, Lee Min Ho said he studies the synopsis or script first except in "City Hunter."

"I think it’s different every single time. I usually look at the synopsis or the script first, but in case of 'City Hunter,' I made a choice to do this project just because the director was Jin Hyuk," he said.

Among the roles that he has played, Lee Min Ho said it was his character in "City Hunter" that is closest to his personality.

"I have affection for every roles I think I could immerse in roles I play as I grow up by combining every work from an extra debut. The character which resembles me so far is maybe Lee Yoonsung in 'City Hunter.' Having a wounded heart in past is different but being brusque and not easy to express and naughty," he said.

Despite his busy career, Lee Min Ho said he takes care of his health by going to the gym although he doesn't follow a strict diet.

He said, "In order to stay fit and healthy, I hit the gym to work out. I don’t have any strict diet. While getting ready for the new TV show 'Heirs' that will be on air this year, I do weight training, and play Speedminton, which is similar to badminton, with my show guest Monsterz."

If he is given the opportunity to have a long vacation, Lee Min Ho said, "I’d like to go backpacking on a long journey with the itinerary I came up with. Since it has been so hot, I recently thought about going into an igloo in Antarctica."

When asked what is his ideal girl, Lee Min Ho said it's someone that he's comfortable with, has her charm and confidence.

"It’s someone that I don’t feel uncomfortable whenever I am with her. Everyone has their own charm and I don’t think a lot of people have realized their own charm. I find girls who know what they have and are confident in themselves attractive," he said.

Lee Min Ho is excited to meet his Filipino fans at his Manila concert and he sent this message through Bulletin Entertainment.

"Hi everyone, I'm Lee Minho. It has been so long. I'm so glad to greet you guys. I'll see you guys in the tour 'My Everything' on 6th of July in Manila. I hope that we can have great time. Always be happy," he said.
